I found this today in my drafts. I never posted it. It’s worth posting even if it’s more than a few years late…
I remember the first time I saw Roger play. It was at the Wire, and he had just stopped in to see his old friend David Grundhoefer who was playing with Omega3……Roger got on stage to play a song or two and I realized I had seen him before. Just a few days prior to this night he had played his lap guitar accompanying Michael McDermott at the Listening Room. This was awesome, I loved hearing him play and that turquoise guitar was way cool. After the show I was in back with the band talking about the pictures I had taken of them, I introduced myself to Roger, and I told him I had taken a few pix of him, and maybe we could be friends on facebook and I would tag him on them…..we became friends in life. Roger was a gentle, intelligent man who was an amazing musician.
As a composer, producer, and performer, Roger had been a four time EMMY nominee . He was a contributing writer for Mac Design Magazine. Roger was a well respected session musician, who had played in over 1000 national TV spots. He was Music Director for the Television series The Best of Comic Relief and “Wild Chicago.” He appeared in the movie Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray.
I didn’t have a long history with Roger, but in the short time I knew him I loved sharing his company with my wife and Roger’s girl friend Jane. He was an amazing father and loved his daughters in a way that made you sigh…….Roger you will be missed……Rest in Peace my friend…..
